This trip takes us to the deepest of the Bahian State and it’s an unusual approach to the rural world, an astonishing bath of nature and a realisation of a tropical dream. From Salvador, the African capital of Brazil we go deep into the massif of the Chapada Diamantina, a world as virgin as fabulous where still the devotion to the diamond reigns, where the authenticity of the humans mix with the one of the nature. After we pass the green and carved coast of the Bahian coastline. It’s in Imbassai where the river meets the sea where we discover the wild beaches with coconut trees.

Proposal

1 Day - Salvador / Igatu

After meet and greet in Salvador, we leave to the mountainous massif of the Chapada Diamantina, located 440 km away. Picnic stop along the route. Arrival at Igatu early evening. This half-abandoned village knew its hours of fame during the apogee of the diamond of the 18th century. The ruins recovered by vegetation and the smiles of some irreducible dwellers remain. Check-in at the pousada and walk in the village and to meet the legendary hospitality of the dwellers.
Dinner and overnight at cosy pousada.

2 Day - Igatu

Full day excursion into the Chapada Diamantina and the surroundings of Igatu. Hike (approx. 2 hours) along the trails that were long ago the diamond roads. Visit of a place where people dig for diamonds. Transfer by car to the Poco Encantado (45 km). There we go down on foot to the underground lake with an incredibly intense blue. Visit of Poco Azul, another underground lake with an intense blue and an astonishing clarity. Possibility to take a dip (we lend the masks and snorkels). We stop for a moment to relax at the shore of Rio Paraguacu, one of the numerous rivers in the massif. Return to Igatu late afternoon.

3 Day - Igatu / Lencois

We leave in the morning in direction of the western side of the Chapada. Stop to take a bath in the Rio Mucugezinho, then we hike until we arrive at the waterfalls of Poco de Diabo. Continuation to the village of Iraquara and visit of the cave of Lapa Doce. The beauty of stalactites and stalagmites create an exceptional whole. Later in the afternoon we climb up to the Morro do Pai Inacio. From top of this rocky formation we can overview the most beautiful landscape of the Chapada. Arrival at the village of Lencois in the evening.

4 Day - Lencois

In the morning we leave on foot for a hike (1 hour) along the mule trails of the surroundings. Carved by canyons, rivers and forests, this region is packed with numerous waterfalls and an endemic vegetation composed of flowered bushes and ferntrees. Stop at the Ribeirao do Meio for a bath in the middle of natural “toboggans” of this river. Return to Lencois for lunch. In the afternoon we visit the village, a jewel of the colonial art. Lencois conserves with pride its colonial facades and paved roads, witnesses of a pompous era where traders from all over the world came to buy diamonds.
Dinner and overnight at the pousada.

5 Day - Lencois / Salvador

In the morning we leave back to Salvador Picnic lunch during the transfer. Arrival early afternoon. End of package.
For those with some extra time we suggest a combination with the northern coastline of Bahia. It is an ideal place to relax and for strolls along the beaches.

1. This package is available year around, except during holidays, Christmas and New Years.
2. The below mentioned rates are per person and valid until December 2008.
