The moment comes when all participants are the protagonists of their own play, costume, plot, and samba. This is carnival year after year.
"Carnaval", as spelled in Portuguese, is a 4-day celebration. It starts on Saturday, and ends on Fat Tuesday or Mardi gras. Besides, little need be said about Carnival in Rio; come and see for yourself! We prepared a fantastic package so you can enjoy and feel how big is Carnival in Rio!

Early arrival in Rio.
Carnival approaches and it’s time to check from inside and feel the rhythm!
From the airport, depart to a half day city tour that includes Rio’s highlights plus Carnival attractions. A Costume designer customizer will show you her atelier and you will see how they build those incredible costumes to the Carnival Parade. Then, a short historical tour to downtown Rio. This tour will show you the busy mixture of historic buildings overshadowed by high rise office blocks. The historical centre of Rio houses an impressive complex of colonial Baroque architecture, including the Royal Palace, the National Historical Museum, the Candelaria Church and the monastery of Sao Bento, considered by some to be the city's richest historical building.
From there, stop lunch (optional) at one of Rio's most traditional restaurants and tea rooms, Casa Colombo. After lunch depart by subway to a Samba Lesson! Samba is the spirit and soul of Brazilian music and dance. The fascinating rhythms and bodily expressions make the Samba one of the most popular ballroom dances. The simple steps and distinctive music makes the Samba very easy to learn. Come and learn a few dance moves!

Rio de Janeiro
Saturday 21.Feb.09
After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel to a departure to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. You will go up by cable car and be able to appreciate the fantastic view of the Guanabara Bay.
Return to your hotel.
Lunch is on your own.
This afternoon you will have the first opportunity of exercising all you have learn about the samba. Get ready and lets go to join the Carlinhos de Jesus street block. Carlinhos de Jesus owns a Dance House and Course and since 1992, as a carnival fan, he created his street block. You don’t have to be an experienced dancer to take part on it, just let the music reach your heart and move your body accordingly. The Carnival troupe has a shirt with exclusive drawing, the perfect souvenir. (Each passenger receives a Carnival kit containing 1 T-shirt from the street block and 2 tickets to the subway).
Return to the hotel.
Dinner is on your own.

Rio de Janeiro
Sunday 22.Feb.09
After breakfast, morning visit to the Corcovado Mountain to see the Christ, the Redeemer, statue and have a great sight from the city.
Return to the hotel.
Lunch and dinner are on your own.
Afternoon is at leisure.
Depart for a night visit to the Samba Schools´ parade concentration. But before, you will enjoy a typical barbecue in a restaurant near your hotel. Then, walk to the subway station to experience driving with locals wearing their carnival costumes to the parade, as most of them do not stay to see. We could not see the parade and miss to watch the schools line up at the concentration. It’s your chance to see all costumes and floats together for the first time, even before the TV cameras! And you can take your own cool backstage photos.
Return to the hotel.
Change your clothes and by midnight we will pick you up at the hotel and take to a Carnival Ball. Rio offers a selection of Carnival balls you really should not miss.
Return by taxi (on your own) and overnight at the hotel.

Breakfast and time for leisure or sleeping morning, that’s up to you!
Enjoy waking up late but also going to the Copacabana beautiful beach.
Lunch is on your own.
Return to the hotel.

OPTIONAL: Night departure to the Samba Schools parade. You will now discover why it became too big for improvisations!

You will have a leisure time or sleeping morning, that’s up to you!

In the afternoon, feel like a real native and enjoy the most famous and traditional of the street bands of Ipanema district (walking distance from the hotel).
Dinner and night is on your own.

Ash Wednesday... don’t be sad! You can come back next year!
Breakfast will be served at the hotel restaurant.
Morning suggestion: relax but enjoy. You can rest when you are back home!

If your flight is leaving later today, you can ask at the reception desk to keep your luggage and do some shopping (as most of the shops open after lunch).
Transfer from your hotel to the airport.

(Entrance fees are under the control of the respective municipal government and are based on actual amounts.
