Observation

Visit to the National Park of Chapada dos Guimarães, with its cliffs sculpted by the wind and rain, its valleys covered with a lush vegetation, typical from "Cerrado", its fresh mineral water waterfalls.
Typical lunch surrounded by a natural environment.

The area was discovered by bandeirantes who explored the region in search of gold and gems in the 18th century. The park, 33.000 hectares long, is 38 mi. (64 km.) far from Cuiabá, northeast bound. It comprises 32 different archeological sites, with several types of rocks covered with ancient inscriptions. There are also 200 different waterfalls - which drop 164 ft. (50 meters) or more over the edge of escarpments - and gigantic rock formations, shaped by the work of erosion. The biggest waterfall in the region is Véu da Noiva, which plunges from the startling height of 282 ft. (86 meters). Other tourist attractions in the park are the Salgadeira waterfall, which drops 33 ft. (10 meters) over the edge of reddish and peculiarly shaped rocks; the Cachoeirinha; the Andorinhas fall; and Casa da Pedra, a cavern of noteworthy proportions, embedded in the region’s rocky topography.

In the southern part of the National Park lies the town of Chapada dos Guimarães, with 16.000 inhabitants. Founded as a small village in the 18th century, the town still displays many architectural features from that time, such as the church of Nossa Senhora Santana, built in 1779. The Geodetic Point of South America, which sets the continent’s geographic center, lies precisely at 4.97 mi. (8 km.) from the town of Chapada dos Guimarães, at the top of a terrace from where the beautiful landscape of the region can be unveiled.

Duration: approximately 8 hours.
Departures: Daily at 8h00.
